DPM Kuy Sophal Presides Over Groundbreaking Ceremony in Kampong Chhnang Province


Kampong Chhnang: Samdech Moha Montrei Kuy Sophal, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Royal Palace, presided over the groundbreaking and inauguration ceremony of newly completed facilities at Attvear Leu pagoda, located in Trapeang Chan commune, Boribo district, Kampong Chhnang province, on Mar. 10. The event saw the participation of provincial leaders, Buddhist monks, local officials, students, and a large number of residents.



According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Deputy Prime Minister Samdech Moha Montrei Kuy Sophal highlighted the contributions made by the Royal Government and the local community to the development of the pagoda. The newly inaugurated facilities include a new road, temple gates, paved courtyards, fencing, water wells, restrooms, and solar-powered lighting systems. These achievements were made possible through the support and faith of both local and overseas Buddhist devotees and philanthropists.



In his address, Samdech Moha Montrei Kuy Sophal emphasized the Royal Government’s commitment to promoting Buddhism as the state religion while respecting other faiths. He stated that Cambodia guarantees freedom of religion or belief for all citizens. Temples and religious institutions serve as centers for spiritual development, social education, cultural preservation, healthcare, and moral guidance. They play a role in fostering national unity, peace, and socio-economic progress. The government remains committed to preventing the commercialization of religion, combating discrimination, and ensuring harmony among all religious communities.



Furthermore, the Deputy Prime Minister urged local authorities to prioritize high-quality public services and to be attentive to the needs of the people. He called on citizens to adhere to traffic laws, exercise caution while driving, and avoid drug abuse, which poses a threat to individuals, families, and society. He highlighted the importance of protecting youth and children from narcotics, ensuring that moments of joy and merit-making do not turn into tragedy.



The ceremony concluded with Deputy Prime Minister Kuy Sophal and other dignitaries cutting the ribbon to officially inaugurate the newly constructed temple and other facilities at Attvear Leu pagoda.
