Deputy Prime Minister Tea Seiha Visits Troops Along Cambodia-Vietnam Border

Takeo: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence, H.E. General Tea Seiha, led a delegation to inspect the Cambodia-Vietnam border at Boundary Marker 275 near the Phnom Den International Border Gate. During the visit on Mar. 25, he met with troops stationed at the 333rd Battalion Headquarters in Kirivong district, Takeo province, ahead of the upcoming Khmer New Year celebrations.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the visit was attended by Takeo Provincial Governor H.E. Vei Samnang, and the provincial police, gendarmerie and military leaders as well as personnel from the 333rd Battalion, which is stationed along the border between Takeo province and An Giang province, Vietnam. During the visit, H.E. General Tea Seiha commended the bravery and dedication of Cambodian troops in safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity. He emphasised that any border issues are addressed through established mechanisms between Cambodia and Vietnam, while similar disputes involving Thailand are resolved through diplomatic channels between the two countries’ defence ministries and border committees.

The Deputy Prime Minister also highlighted the Ministry of National Defence’s plans to enhance training programmes for officers and soldiers, ensuring they are equipped with modern technology and advanced military equipment. He stressed the importance of vigilance along the border and the need for careful analysis before making decisions, particularly in light of misinformation and incitement spreading on social media, such as false claims regarding border disputes with Thailand.

Additionally, H.E. General Tea Seiha acknowledged the sensitivity of border issues, noting that opposition groups often exploit them to criticise the Royal Government. He cited previous disputes involving Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam, underlining that the Royal Government had already resolved CLV-related issues with Laos and Vietnam. However, he pointed out that some groups continue to use the Cambodia-Thailand border issue as a political attack against the Royal Government of Cambodia.

The visit reaffirmed the Royal Government’s commitment to national security and territorial integrity while ensuring that border protection efforts remain coordinated and well-informed.
