Contract Primary School Teachers to be Recruited as Civil Servants

Phnom Penh: Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has asked the Ministry of Civil Service and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports to recruit potential contract primary school teachers as civil servants. The Premier made the instruction while presiding over the closing ceremony of the annual meeting of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, held at the Institute of Technology of Cambodia this afternoon.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, some contract teachers have contributed significantly to providing education for children in rural areas, but they do not meet the current criteria to be recruited as civil servants. Therefore, the Ministry of Civil Service and the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports are tasked with training these teachers before officially recruiting them.

Moreover, Samdech Thipadei Prime Minister advised the two ministries to explore the possibility of encouraging retired teachers to continue teaching students.

To address the shortage of teachers in rural areas, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet urged the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports to tighten the process of transferring teachers from rural to urban areas.

Additionally, the Prime Minister decided to extend the contract period for contract teachers from one year to two years to ensure the sustainability of their salaries.
