Constitution Monument Inaugurated on Constitution Day Celebration


The Constitution Monument whose construction began on June 12, 2023 in a public park west of the Independence Monument in Phnom Penh was inaugurated this morning by His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia.

This event was also attended by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate, and Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister and many other senior officials and representatives of foreign diplomatic corps in Cambodia.

The inauguration ceremony also marks the 31st anniversary of the anniversary of the promulgation of the Constitution of Cambodia, said H.E. Im Chhun Lim, President of the Constitutional Council of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

H.E. Im Chhum Lim said this achievement represents the social and political stability in Cambodia and symbolises peace, democracy, religion, monarchy, and laws of the Kingdom.

Addressing the event, His Majesty the King mentioned that this is another new achievement showing that the Cambodian peo
ple are willing to respect, protect and uphold the Constitution as the country’s supreme law.

‘This is the indisputable truth of the implementation of the Constitution. Cambodia has peace and development, and the strengthening of national unity, the protection of sovereignty and the rule of law,’ he underlined.

The Constitution Monument is a unique construction because it is made from a metal structure, with the upper sections made from 70 percent bronze and 30 percent copper, while the lower part is made from sandstone. The architecture of the monument can also be said to be inspired by medieval architecture, a combination of Roman wed with Khmer architecture.

The 2,380-square-metre-monument was built at a total cost of US$2.23 million with a height of 23.4 metres and a weight of 112.9 tonnes.
