Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment has expressed confidence that it can reduce marine plastic waste by 8 percent every year to reach the target of 70 percent reduction by 2025.The ministry’s deputy for environmental and forestry management coordination, Nina Hendiarti, on Tuesday said that the target can be achieved if supported by various partners.
“Last year, we were able to reduce 36 percent. So every year, the reduction must increase by 8 percent. With support from other partners, it can reach 10 percent. We are optimistic that the target of 70 percent by 2025 will be achieved,” she stated after attending the ASEAN Conference for Combating Plastic Pollution (ACCPP) in Jakarta.
ccording to Hendiarti, the strategy to achieve the 70-percent reduction in marine plastic debris is to collaborate with 18 ministries and institutions and other stakeholders.
