Significant coastal erosion has been recently recorded in Hoang Hoa district, the central province of Thanh Hoa, concerning thousands of fishermen’s households in the fishing villages of Hoang Thanh, Hoang Phu and Hoang Truong. The seawater “swallows” gradually the villages with landslides occurring quickly and dangerously, some sections of embankments collapsing, and the erosion eating up to 20m inland, directly affecting locals’ lives and causing potentially high risks to coastal infrastructure works.
