Phnom Penh: President of the People’s Republic of China, H.E. Xi Jinping, arrived in Phnom Penh this morning to begin his two-day state visit to Cambodia, at the invitation of His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia. The grand welcome ceremony for the Chinese top leader was held at Phnom Penh International Airport by His Majesty the King, accompanied by Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and many other Cambodian senior officials.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, during the visit, H.E. Xi Jinping is scheduled to have separate Royal Audiences with His Majesty the King and Her Majesty Norodom Monineath Sihanouk, the Queen-Mother, at the Royal Palace. He will meet with Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and also with Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, to discuss the strengthening of bilateral ties and exchange views on regional and international issues of common interest.

During the visit, many documents are expected to be signed to promote cooperation in various sectors. This is the second state visit of H.E. Xi Jinping to Cambodia, with the first visit having taken place in 2016.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet yesterday extended a warm welcome to H.E. Xi Jinping on his state visit to Cambodia. ‘This visit will demonstrate the importance and the strength of Cambodia-China relations. Cambodia-China friendship is historical and enduring. Our two countries have continuously enhanced and expanded our relations and cooperation in all fields,’ he mentioned.

For over the past 67 years, a relationship was forged during Samdech Preah Borom Ratanak Kaudh Norodom Sihanouk’s era and has been nurtured by Samdech Techo Hun Sen as well as the current Royal Government of Cambodia. Cambodia-China relations have reached the highest level, that is comprehensive strategic partnership and ironclad friendship, he said.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet added that the two countries are together creating new achievements within the Diamond Cooperation Framework and building a Community with a Shared Future for common interests based on the principles of respect for sovereignty, equality, and non-interference in internal affairs.

For Cambodia, he emphasised, China has played a pivotal role in socio-economic development, especially in the fields of infrastructure, investment and tourism. The Cambodia-China partnership has also enhanced Cambodia’s independence, national defence capabilities, and prestige on the international stage.

H.E. Xi Jinping has been conducting a three-country (Vietnam, Malaysia and Cambodia) tour of Southeast Asia from April 14 to 18, 2025.
