Chinese Firm Agrees to Import 200,000 Tonnes of Cambodian Dried Cassava


Beihai: Chinese firm COFCO Bio-Energy Co., Ltd has entered into a new agreement with Cambodian company Hang Harvest Agriculture Co., Ltd to import 200,000 tonnes of dried cassava from Cambodia. The agreement marks Phase 2 of the purchasing and selling deal, which was signed in Beihai city, Guangxi Autonomous Region, China, late last week.



According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the signing ceremony was presided over by H.E. Lim Lork Piseth, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Commerce. The event was attended by representatives from various organizations, including the Commercial Department of Guangxi Autonomous Region, the Cambodian Commercial Liaison Office in Nanning, and the People’s Government of Beihai. Relevant authorities from Beihai, the Agricultural and Rural Development Bank of Cambodia, as well as cassava buyers and sellers from both nations, also took part in the event.



The Ministry of Commerce highlighted that this agreement aims to strengthen and expand trade cooperation between Cambodia and China. It also seeks to enhance the export of Cambodian cassava to the Chinese market. Phase 1 of the agreement had already seen the arrival of 5,000 tonnes of dried cassava in Beihai city, with the handover ceremony coinciding with the signing of the Phase 2 agreement.
