Cambodia’s Environment Minister Welcomes Japanese Investment for Sustainable Development

Phnom Penh: Cambodia’s Minister of Environment, H.E. Dr. Eang Sophalleth, has reaffirmed the Royal Government’s strong support for investments from the Japan-Cambodia Association (JCA) aimed at fostering sustainable development within the Kingdom.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the minister met with a JCA delegation, led by President H.E. Takahashi Fumiaki, at the Ministry of Environment headquarters on Mar. 31. During the meeting, the JCA president commended the Royal Government of Cambodia, and specifically the Ministry of Environment, for its effective policies in attracting and facilitating investments aligned with the nation’s sustainable development goals.

H.E. Takahashi Fumiaki, former Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia, outlined the JCA’s mission to explore potential investment opportunities in Cambodia. He also highlighted the significant interest from numerous Japanese companies and philanthropists in bringing advanced technologies and support to the country.

These initiatives, he noted, are designed to create employment opportunities for local communities while simultaneously promoting environmental protection.

In reply, H.E. Dr. Eang Sophalleth expressed his gratitude for the JCA’s role in encouraging Japanese investment in Cambodia’s development. He reiterated the Royal Government’s commitment to sustainable development and urged the association and its partners to continue supporting economic empowerment within local communities, particularly those residing in protected natural resource areas.

The minister emphasised the importance of ensuring household economic stability through income-generating activities derived from direct and green investments. He reaffirmed that sustainability, environmental preservation, and economic resilience remain central pillars of Cambodia’s national development agenda.
