Cambodian Senate Approves Amendment to Internal Regulations


Phnom Penh: The Senate of the Kingdom of Cambodia approved this morning the proposed amendment to its internal regulations. The 59 senators present voted for the proposed amendment at an extraordinary session of the Senate chaired by its President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen.



According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the amendment to the internal regulations is based on the legislative principle of preparing legal regulations that respond appropriately to the role of the Senate as an organization with legislative power. The proposed amendment consists of 17 chapters divided into 89 articles, detailing ‘the procedures of the sessions and other activities of the Senate, as well as the structure and mechanisms of the Senate and some internal rules.’



The proposed amendment also reflects the high responsibility of the Senate under the wise leadership of Samdech Techo Hun Sen to ensure the implementation of its functions more effectively, especially in line with the context of socio-economic growth, the continuously evolving technological systems, and to respond to the long-term vision of the 5th legislature of the Senate.



Today’s approval of the internal regulations marks a significant moment in the history of Cambodia as 40 years ago, on Jan. 14, 1985, Samdech Techo Hun Sen was elected as the Chairman of the State Council, underlined the press release.
