Cambodian Runner Wins First Prize at Angkor Empire Marathon 2024


Cambodian Runner, Van Pheara, won the first place in the men’s marathon with a time of 02:40:51, at the 9th Angkor Empire Marathon 2024 held at the Angkor Archeological Park in Siem Reap province on Aug. 4.

Japanese runner, Yuki Kaneyama and Vietnamese runner, Dai Be Thanh came in second and third in 02:47:29 and 02:54:05, respectively.

For the women’s category, the first prize went to Caitriona Jennings of Ireland in 03:05:43.19, the second place to Nguyen Thi Linh in 03:13:35.54, and the third place to China’s Qi Wang in 03:41:07.80.

The 9th Angkor Empire Marathon 2024 attracted a total of 3,021 participants, of them more than 2,000 are Cambodian athletes and 815 are international athletes from 51 countries. Most of the foreign athletes are Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, British and Thai.

On behalf of Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, H.E. Thong Khon, Senior Minister and Chairman of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC), extended warm welcome to all the participants, and hoped that
they will also take part in the Angkor Wat International Half Marathon in Siem Reap province on Dec. 1.

H.E. Vath Chamroeun, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and NOCC Secretary General, said that this year’s Angkor Empire Marathon was organised to congratulate the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Funan Techo on Aug. 5, 2024, to raise funds to help Kantha Bopha Children’s Hospitals, and to contribute to maintaining the beauty, hygiene and environment of the Angkor Heritage Site and to promoting tourism operations in Siem Reap.
