Cambodian PM Says National Identity Must Not Be Lost

Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, this afternoon said that no matter how developed the country is, the national identity must not be lost.

Speaking at the annual meeting of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs held at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said the freedom of expression must be taken into account, but we must also respect the value of Cambodian women and the cultural value of the nation.

The Premier stated that the Royal Government has been paying close attention to the role of women in social and economic development, but some women’s acts on social media to gain views and sell their products have affected the value of the Cambodian culture.

‘Of course, the rights and freedoms of the people, especially the rights of women, are upheld. However, we also have an obligation to protect and preserve the social and cultural values and traditions, especially the values of Cambodian women,’ he said.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet added that in
Cambodia, we have the freedom of expression, but it must not go beyond the boundaries, especially not to lose the identity as a Cambodian woman.
