Cambodian PM Receives UN Under-Secretary-General

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet received here at the Peace Palace this morning UN Under-Secretary-General and Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide Ms. Alice Wairimu Nderitu. In the meeting, Ms. Alice Wairimu Nderitu briefed the Cambodian Premier on her main purpose of the visit to Cambodia, and noted the successful cooperation between the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) and the UN and the promotion of genocide education. Ms. Alice Wairimu Nderitu praised Cambodia's glorious success in organising the work of the ECCC, stressing that Cambodia's lessons and experiences should be shared with countries around the world, and lauded the Kingdom's continued cooperation between the UN and the Royal Government of Cambodia on the implementation of Home Grown Projects. For his part, Samdech Thipadei Prime Minister thanked Ms. Alice Wairimu Nderitu for her interest in Cambodia's success in educating and promoting genocide awareness. Samdech Thipadei emp hasised that the education to the next generation is important and that this was not just about genocide committed by the Khmer Rouge regime, but also about contributing to the prevention of indescribable atrocities in Cambodian society. At the same time, Samdech Thipadei said the Royal Government will establish an institute to compile and manage documents and a research centre to share knowledge and provide information to the next generation, scholars and the general public to learn more about genocide, as well as the success and functioning of the ECCC. Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also encouraged the UN representatives to continue cooperating with relevant ministries and institutions of the Royal Government of Cambodia to continue to implement the direction of the Home Grown Projects.
