Cambodian NA President Lauds the Adoption of the Universal Peace Charter.


Phnom Penh: Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, praised the adoption of the Phnom Penh Declaration and the Universal Peace Charter: For People and the Planet, highlighting it as a model of peace. This declaration, along with the awarding of the “Peace Medal: For People and the Planet” to Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, was celebrated during her closing remarks at the 11th Plenary Session of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace (IPTP 11).

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Samdech Khuon Sudary, who also serves as the President of IPTP 11, remarked that Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of Cambodia, has marked significant milestones in the global endeavor to promote peace and cooperation. She emphasized that the Universal Peace Charter is a living, non-binding document that embodies the shared wisdom and commitment to fortifying the foundations of peace.

Samdech Khuon Sudary further stated, “Peace is no
t given; it is earned. Like oxygen, peace is essential yet often taken for granted. We must work diligently to build the ecosystem and foundation required to sustain peace.”

The Universal Peace Charter is grounded in fundamental principles such as unity in diversity, respect for sovereignty, non-aggression, and the peaceful settlement of disputes. It provides a comprehensive framework for peacebuilding, focusing on confidence-building measures, preventive diplomacy, and crisis management. The Charter promotes the principles of mutual respect, mutual understanding, mutual trust, and mutual interest for peace and prosperity, as underscored by Samdech Khuon Sudary.
