Phnom Penh: Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, recently welcomed H.E. Mr. Huang Li, Chairman of the Social Affairs Committee of the Guangdong Provincial People’s Congress from southern China, during a courtesy call.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, during the meeting, Samdech Khuon Sudary emphasized the enduring ties between Cambodia and China, which were established by historical leaders such as His Majesty King Norodom Sihanouk and China’s Chairman Mao Zedong and Premier Zhou Enlai. She highlighted that these ties have been further strengthened under the leadership of His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni, President Xi Jinping, former Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen, and his successor, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet.
Samdech Khuon Sudary described the relationship between Cambodia and China as a model for international relations, characterized by mutual respect and equal partnership despite the disparity in their sizes. The relationship wa
s further reinforced by the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in September, aimed at enhancing cooperation between the two countries’ legislatures.
Chairman Huang Li’s visit to Cambodia is part of the MoU’s objective to strengthen ties between the Cambodian National Assembly and the Guangdong Provincial People’s Congress, as well as between the Guangdong and Siem Reap provinces. He emphasized Guangdong’s economic potential, highlighting its rapidly growing economy, leading investment opportunities, and a population of 150 million, which presents opportunities for bilateral economic cooperation.
Chairman Huang also acknowledged the long-standing historical and cultural connections between Cambodia and China and expressed optimism for further cooperation. He extended gratitude to Samdech Khuon Sudary and Cambodian officials for their hospitality and looked forward to welcoming Samdech to Guangdong in the future.
Samdech Khuon Sudary expressed appreciation to the Chinese Party, State, and
people for their support, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, which significantly contributed to Cambodia’s socio-economic development and political independence. This support aligns with the Cambodian government’s Pentagonal Strategy, focusing on people, roads, water, electricity, and technology.
She also praised the Diamond Cooperation Framework between Cambodia and China, describing it as a visionary plan with actionable steps to build a high-quality, high-level, and high-standard community with a shared future, ensuring the enduring friendship between the two nations for future generations.
The Cambodian NA president emphasized the importance of collaboration with Guangdong to achieve Cambodia’s ambitious goals of becoming an upper middle-income country by 2030 and attaining high-income status by 2050.
Samdech Khuon Sudary also extended congratulations to China on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic this year, expressing admiration for its achievements. Chairman Huang h
