His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, has sent his best wishes for his subjects during the celebration of Kan Ben and Pchum Ben – one of Cambodia’s biggest religious festivals, lasting for 15 days, to commemorate and dedicate offerings to the deceased ancestors.
His Majesty the King delivered the message in an open letter issued recently, re-emphasising special aspects of the Buddhist celebration.
This festival is very important for the Cambodian people to come and pay their respects and dedicate merits and offerings to their deceased ancestors and relatives, he wrote.
The monarch added that it also serves as an opportunity to reunite with their families and relatives near and far and to support the Buddhist monks who have endured their three-month stay-in period in the pagoda.
The celebration, continued the King, has significantly contributed to nurturing the spirit of national unity, love, preservation, protection of traditions and customs, and promoting the
Khmer civilisation.
His Majesty the King ended his letter with praying for Buddha’s blessings for all Cambodians during the celebration of this year’s Kan Ben and Pchum Ben that lasts from Sept. 18 until Oct. 2.
