Phnom Penh: H.E. Neth Pheaktra, Minister of Information of the Kingdom and Cambodia, has urged all journalists and social media content creators in Cambodia to rigorously verify the sources of their information before publishing any news or content. Speaking to members of the media in Phnom Penh, Minister Pheaktra underscored the critical importance of accuracy and reliability in news dissemination.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the minister cautioned that some information sources may be deliberately untruthful or lack credibility, and that certain individuals might intentionally create false narratives to advance their own agendas or for personal gain. H.E. Neth Pheaktra emphasised the potential for significant harm when unverified information, particularly from misleading or fabricated sources, is published and spread.
He warned that such practices can lead to widespread confusion, the proliferation of misinformation, and a decline in public trust in the media. The minister called upon all media professionals and online content producers to uphold their responsibility to the public by diligently distinguishing between factual information and falsehoods before disseminating any news.
“Please verify before publishing. Say no to fake news!” Minister Pheaktra stated emphatically.
