Cambodian Defence Ministry Speaks Highly of Australia’s Support


Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence has received the newly appointed Australian Ambassador to Cambodia, appreciating Australia’s long-standing support.

H.E. Tea Seiha met with the Australian diplomat H.E. Derek Yip at the ministry on Oct. 22, and this year marks the 72nd anniversary of Australian-Cambodian diplomatic relations.

Australia is the first country to provide demining training for Cambodian officials, and it has actively contributed to peacebuilding operations in Cambodia, said the deputy prime minister.

Australia has so far provided at least 25 technical training courses, both within Cambodia and internationally, for more than 150 Cambodian peacekeepers, and some of them are currently carrying their mission overseas.

He encouraged Australia to continue supporting technical capacity building for Cambodian ground troops, navies, and air forces for national defence.

H.E. Derek Yip thanked H.E. Tea Sokha for the warm hospitality and appreciation of Australia’s suppor
t and spoke highly of Cambodia’s rapid economic growth as well as progress in defence capacity.
