Cambodia’s Ministry of Commerce and U.S. State Department have recently discussed ways to promote disability rights and inclusion and explore opportunities for cooperation between the two countries.

The Cambodian side was headed by H.E. Rath Saravuth, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Commerce, while the U.S. side was led by Ms. Sara Minkara, Special Advisor of the U.S. State Department on International Disability Rights (SAIDR).

Officials from the U.S. Embassy in Cambodia was also present in the meeting held at the ministry on Aug. 2.

According to the Ministry of Commerce, H.E. Secretary of State highly valued this discussion and emphasised the importance of providing opportunities for all members of society to participate in the economic and trade sectors, especially individuals with disabilities.

H.E. Rath Saravuth mentioned that Cambodia, as an ASEAN member and in the spirit of ASEAN solidarity, encourages member states to consider the inclusion of individuals with disabilities to actively partic
ipate in the digital economy, ensuring that no one is left behind in this development.

As a result, this meeting demonstrated Cambodia’s commitment to developing the economic and trade sectors, particularly by enhancing awareness of disability-related topics within the digital economy, AI technology, and the Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA) under ASEAN.
