The National Assembly (NA) of Cambodia has scheduled to host the 11th Plenary Session of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace (IPTP) in Phnom Penh on Nov. 23-26, according to its Secretariat.
Under the main theme of ‘A Quest for Peace, Reconciliation, and Tolerance’, the gathering also anchors on two sub-themes, which are Advancing the Global Architecture of Peace, Peacebuilding, Reconciliation, and Tolerance: Synergy of Governments, Parliaments, and Civil Society; and Solidifying Multilateralism, Cooperation, and Partnership for Coexistence and Inclusive Connectivity.
The four-day event will be officially opened with a royal message of His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, and speeches of the heads of the country’s legislative and executive bodies.
H.E. Suos Yara, Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Information Committee of the National Assembly, recently shared his view that, in its role as the host of the event,
Cambodia will be further recognised as a key player in promoting the values of tolerance and peace through inter-parliamentary cooperation and diplomacy.
The IPTP is a legislative body of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace (GCTP) established since 2017 to provide a platform for national parliament members to discuss and cooperate on issues of contemporary world peace.
It has members from more than 100 countries in Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin America, and North America, and the Cambodian NA joined the network in 2021.
The IPTP’s 11th plenary session expects to launch a Phnom Penh Declaration that adopts the Peace Charter to promote peace, tolerance, and sustainable development through multilateral dialogue and cooperation.
