Cambodia to Further Strengthen ASEAN-U.S. Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

Cambodia as the country coordinator for ASEAN-U.S. Dialogue Relations is committed to further strengthening the ASEAN-U.S. Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The commitment was underscored by H.E. SOK Chenda Sophea, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, during a cordial meeting with H.E. Yohannes Abraham, U.S. Ambassador to ASEAN, according to a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation released this evening. On the occasion, the two sides commended the good momentum of ASEAN-U.S. relations and recalled the successful establishment of the meaningful, substantive, and mutually beneficial ASEAN-U.S. Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2022. As Cambodia will shortly assume the role of country coordinator for ASEAN-U.S. Dialogue Relations for three years (2024-2027), they shared the view that both countries have to work closely with each other and other ASEAN members to achieve more milestones in the partnership and reali se mutual interests for shared growth. They also placed great importance on the fields of advanced technology and digital economy to bolster socio-economic development and growth in the region, and committed to translating the vision into practical and concrete actions. The Cambodian DPM highlighted the significance of ASEAN centrality and ASEAN-led mechanisms in evolving regional architecture that is open, transparent, inclusive and rules-based, ensuring peace, security, stability and prosperity in the region. For his part, H.E. Yohannes Abraham reiterated firm U.S. support and respect for ASEAN centrality and unity. The two sides shared perspectives on regional and international issues of common interest and concern. H.E. Ambassador thanked Cambodia for the warm hospitality extended to the U.S. delegation during its chairmanship of ASEAN in 2022 and acknowledged ASEAN's important role in maintaining peace, security and stability, and enhancing growth in the region.
