Cambodia Reaffirms Strong Stance Against Human Trafficking


PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has reiterated Cambodia’s unwavering commitment to eradicating human trafficking in all its forms. Speaking at the 18th National Day Against Human Trafficking ceremony at the Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Centre, the Prime Minister emphasized that tackling human trafficking is a top priority for the nation.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Prime Minister Hun Manet outlined the Royal Government of Cambodia’s dedication to deploying all available resources, including law enforcement and relevant authorities, to combat the pervasive issue of human trafficking and modern slavery. He highlighted the cross-border nature of these crimes as a significant challenge for both the region and the international community. The event was held under the theme “Cambodia is Absolutely Against All Forms and Means of Human Trafficking in the Digital Era.”

The Prime Minister stressed that human trafficking not only victimizes individuals but also tarnish
es Cambodia’s reputation. He urged for collaborative efforts to safeguard the nation’s image and protect both Cambodian citizens and foreign nationals residing in the country. Hun Manet acknowledged that human trafficking has long been a complex issue, exacerbated by modern and sophisticated criminal techniques introduced by illegal foreign immigrants, particularly in the post-COVID-19 recovery phase.

He further emphasized the detrimental impact these crimes have on the safety and well-being of residents and the broader developmental and human dignity goals of Cambodia. The Prime Minister reiterated the government’s resolve to counter any attempts to destabilize Cambodia, stressing the importance of enhancing legal measures and leveraging technology to combat human trafficking.

Hun Manet expressed gratitude towards ministries, institutions, and their partners for their timely actions and cooperation in supporting victims and combating human trafficking.
