Siem Reap: Cambodia is proud to have contributed to sharing experiences and providing training on mine clearance skills to countries around the world. Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, expressed the pride when he received high-level delegates led by H.E. Mrs. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP), prior to the official Opening Ceremony of the Siem Reap-Angkor Summit on a Mine-Free World in Siem Reap provincial city this morning.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Samdech Thipadei highlighted Cambodia’s high attention to mine clearance after the country achieved full peace in 1998. As a result, he pointed out, the Kingdom has cleared more than 3,000 square kilometres of land, making 15 out of the 25 provinces and capital mine-free, but nearly 1,700 square kilometres of land remain contaminated with mines and unexploded ordnanc

The Premier took the opportunity to thank all friendly countries and development partners for their contribution and support to Cambodia’s mine clearance operations.
H.E. Mrs. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana highly appreciated Cambodia for the good organisation of the Siem Reap-Angkor Summit on a Mine-Free World and thanked the Kingdom for the warm hospitality extended to all delegates. She said the participating countries in the Siem Reap-Angkor Summit will demonstrate their shared will and commitment to eliminating anti-personnel mines.
