Cambodia, New Zealand to Hold Third Consultations


Cambodia and New Zealand will hold the third Consultations at an appropriate time in New Zealand, according to a news release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The plan was raised up in a cordial and productive telephone conversation on Feb. 12 between H.E. Sok Chenda Sophea, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia and Rt Hon Winston Peters, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand.

In the talk, both sides expressed their satisfaction with the long-standing relations and highly valued the growing cooperation between the two countries in almost all sectors. This year marks the 65 th Anniversary of the Diplomatic Relations between Cambodia and New Zealand since it was established in 1959.

H.E. Sok Chenda Sophea also highly appreciated New Zealand’s important role in contributing to the peace process and providing ongoing development assistance, particularly in human resource development, agricu
lture and demining for Cambodia’s socio-economic development.

The Cambodian top diplomat highlighted that during the UNTAC period, New Zealand sent approximately 100 military personnel to the peacekeeping mission in Cambodia, and the Kingdom now has become a sending state that has dispatched more than 9,000 personnel to participate in the United Nations’ peacekeeping operations abroad.

Prior to the end of the telephone call, H.E. Deputy Prime Minister extended the invitation to Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters to visit Cambodia at any convenient time.
