Cambodia, Germany Discuss Trade and Economic Cooperation


Cambodia and Germany have discussed way to further strengthen trade and economic cooperation between both countries.

The discussion was made between H.E. Mrs. CHAM Nimul, Minister of Commerce, and Mr. Johannes Steiniger, a Member of the German Bundestag and Dr. Stefan Heck, Chairman of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) Marburg-Biedenkopf, accompanied by the representatives of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Cambodia, at the ministry office on the afternoon of Feb. 12.

On the occasion, H.E. Mrs. CHAM Nimul warmly welcomed the visiting German delegation and briefly shared about the progress of international trade, the macroeconomic situation of Cambodia, and the priority policies of the 7th-mandate Royal Government of Cambodia such as human resource development, economic diversification, competitiveness enhancement, development of digital society, job creation and private sector development, and modernisations of transport infrastructure, including deep-sea ports, canals, railways and expressways, with res
ilience, sustainability, and inclusiveness.

In response, the German side expressed interest and appreciation for Cambodia’s rapid growth in the fields of economy, trade, investment and social affairs.

The German side also briefed about the objectives and operation of the KAS Foundation in Cambodia, as well as reaffirmed their intention to further promote Cambodia-Germany cooperation in all fields, especially trade and investment, and cooperation in best-practices and policy sharing which met the needs of country development like building necessary solid infrastructure, digitalisation, skill building and participation in dealing with the problems of environment, energy, and global economy and so on.
