Cambodia has successfully exported the first batch of premium cashew nuts to China’s Henan province via air freight as part of 200 tonnes of cashew nuts in the purchase order a year.

The initial shipment of these nuts was made on Sunday at the Phnom Penh International Airport.

The event was attended by H.E. Ngin Chhay, Director General of Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries; Mr. Im Sokthy, Deputy Secretary General of Ministry of Economy and Finance; Mr. Li Xiaobin, Chairman of Jian Yu Zhuo Heng Trading Co., Ltd.; Cambodia Angkor Air’s Vice CEO Mr. Nguyen Thien Luong; H.E. Hu Jun, Vice Mayor of Zhengzhou Municipal People’s Government of Henan Province; and Mr. Wang Ju, Deputy Secretary-General of Zhengzhou Municipal People’s Government of Henan Province.

After the first shipment, Cambodia will export cashew nuts by air to Henan every week, said H.E. Ngin Chhay.

The Kingdom has so far exported a lot of cashew nuts to China, but this is the first time for Henan province, which places an order of
200 tonnes per year, he said.

He expressed his enthusiasm about the export, highlighting the potential for further expansion of agricultural trade between Cambodia and China.

‘The export of cashew nuts to China is expected to contribute significantly to the Cambodian economy, providing a much-needed source of income for local farmers and processors,’ he said.

Apart from the Chinese market, Cambodia is also keen to promote and expand the export of cashew nuts to other countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Japan and the European Union.

In the first eight months of 2024, Cambodia exported 560,000 tonnes of cashew nuts to international markets.

Having launched the National Cashew Policy 2022-2027, the Royal Government of Cambodia aims to transform the country into the world’s largest cashew nuts exporter.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, so far, Cambodia has been using over 580,000 hectares of land surface for cashew growing nationwide, with an average yield of about
1.5 tonnes per hectare.
