The first ever Cambodia-Europe Public-Private Sector Dialogue was organised here at the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) on Sept. 17 to increase European investors’ confidence in Cambodia.

The meeting was co-chaired by H.E. Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the CDC, and H.E. Igor Driesmans, Ambassador of the European Union to Cambodia, with the participation of representatives from government ministries and institutions; H.E. Jacques Pellet, Ambassador of France to Cambodia; Mr. Tassilo Brinzer, Chairman of EuroCham Cambodia; and representatives of EU-ASEAN Business Council (EU-ABC), private sector and many other relevant officials.

The dialogue, a mechanism for investment maintenance, was aimed to listen to concerns and solve all the challenges faced by European investors in Cambodia, and to build more trust among other potential European investors who target Cambodia as their investment hub.

In his remarks, H.E. Sun Chanthol stressed the significance of the fir
st ever Cambodia-Europe Public-Private Sector Dialogue, saying that it reflects the Royal Government’s attention to European investors’ concerns and challenges.

Cambodia is open to all investments around the world, he re-emphasised, adding that besides investment facilitation and maintenance, the CDC has been working on attracting more potential investors from different countries, including the EU.

H.E. Sun Chanthol also revealed the CDC’s plan to conduct its second “knock-on-door” mission to the EU in the near future after its first successful mission in June this year.

For his part, H.E. Igor Driesmans said that the dialogue became a new opportunity to bring together all stakeholders of the Royal Government of Cambodia through the CDC’s facilitation and of EU through EuroCham Cambodia’s coordination.

He also expressed support to the CDC’s 2nd mission for investment attraction in European countries, and reaffirmed the EU’s continued cooperation in contribution to Cambodia’s socio-economic development.
