the National Assembly of Cambodia and the National People’s Congress of China have signed two documents aiming to jointly promote and enhance the vision of the legislative bodies of the two countries.
The Agreement on Cooperation and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation between the two parliaments were signed on Sept. 23 at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
The Agreement on Cooperation was inked by Samdech Moha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary and H.E. Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China.
The MoU was signed by H.E. Leng Peng Long, Secretary-General of the National Assembly of Cambodia, and H.E. Liu Qi, Secretary of the General Office of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China.
The spirit of the agreements is to jointly promote and enhance the vision of the two legislative bodies to build high-quality, high-standard Community with a Shared Future in a new era, boosting the cooperation between the two c
ountries at both regional and global fora to contribute to the maintenance of peace, stability, security, and regional and global development.
The MoU between the Secretariats of the two parliaments aims to enhance the role of parliament and diplomacy, based on joint efforts to expand cooperation and strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two Secretariats of the legislative bodies.
The signing ceremony was made following bilateral talks between the leaders of the two parliaments held in Beijing, China.
In the meeting, Samdech Khuon Sudary and H.E. Zhao Leji agreed that friendly exchanges and cooperation between the two legislative bodies are crucial for China-Cambodia relations.
They emphasised the need to strengthen cooperation and exchange experiences in legislation, supervision, and governance to elevate China-Cambodia relations to new heights.
The agreed that the two parliaments will continue to engage in friendly exchanges between the Leaderships, Specialised Commissions, Fri
endship Groups, Women Parliamentarians, Young Parliamentarians, and Secretariat-General officials through various forms such as exchange visits, workshops, video conferences, dialogues, and training courses.
