Phnom Penh: Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, H.E. Chea Vandeth, convened a high-level meeting on Mar. 31, with key players in Cambodia’s telecommunications sector, including mobile operators, antenna tower companies, and optical fiber network providers, to address critical challenges and drive digital advancement.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the gathering, held at the ministry’s headquarters, drew approximately 90 industry representatives alongside ministry officials and technical experts. H.E. Chea Vandeth emphasised the meeting’s focus on showcasing recent ministry achievements, elevating telecommunications service quality, accelerating digital government initiatives, and nurturing a robust digital workforce.
“Strong collaboration between the ministry, the Telecommunication Regulator of Cambodia, and our service providers is paramount to ensuring improved and widespread, high-quality telecommunications services for all Cambodians,” he stated. A key initiative discussed was the standardisation and organisation of optical fiber network layouts in Phnom Penh’s priority areas, aimed at enhancing urban aesthetics while fortifying the city’s telecommunications infrastructure.
The minister also addressed the escalating issue of online scams and fake base transceiver stations (Fake BTS), highlighting their detrimental impact on user experience, data security, privacy, and national security. He called for intensified cooperation between telecommunications service providers, the ministry, and the Telecommunication Regulator of Cambodia to establish robust mechanisms for prevention and mitigation. “We must work together to combat these threats effectively, safeguarding our citizens and ensuring the integrity of our digital landscape,” H.E. Chea Vandeth urged.
The meeting highlighted the Royal government’s commitment to fostering a secure and efficient digital ecosystem, emphasising the crucial role of collaborative efforts in achieving Cambodia’s digital transformation goals.
