Cambodia Attends 7th ASEAN Plus Japan Senior Officials Meeting on Sports in Vietnam

A Cambodian delegation has attended the 7th ASEAN Plus Japan Senior Officials Meeting on Sports (SOMS) in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

The meeting took place in Vinh Phuc province on Oct. 15, with the participation of delegates from ASEAN member states, Timor-Leste, Japan, the ASEAN Secretariat, and stakeholders.

The Cambodian delegation was led by H.E. Pon Sok, Director General of the General Department of Sports at the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports.

The meeting focused on improving the capacity of physical education teachers and sports coaches, promoting gender quality, increasing women’s participation in sports, enhancing people with disabilities’ involvement in sports, and building capacity and training on anti-doping and sports management to contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030.

Addressing the function, H.E. Pon Sok shared the ministry’s activities and new directions in the inclusive development of physical education teachers and sports for people with
disabilities, and action plans on gender promotion and women’s participation in sports.

Under the ASEAN-Japan, a Football4SDGs workshop will be hosted by Cambodia in Phnom Penh on Oct. 23, 2024.

Earlier, on Oct. 14, the Cambodian delegation also took part in the 15th ASEAN SOMS, and the 3rd ASEAN Plus China SOMS on Oct. 16.
