Phnom Penh: Cambodia and South Korea have pledged to deepen cooperation on water resource management and environmental protection.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Cambodian Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology H.E. Thor Chetha met with South Korean Environment Minister Wan-sup Kim during his visit to Seoul, Republic of Korea. The discussions focused on key areas such as flood and drought mitigation, digital water technology, and infrastructure development.
The dialogue between the two ministers centred on four primary areas: enhancing water cooperation, knowledge sharing, exploring funding opportunities, and improving regional water governance within the Mekong River Commission. South Korea is set to provide expertise in hydrological modeling and disaster risk management, alongside capacity-building programmes for Cambodian officials.
Potential grants and loans, including opportunities through the Mekong-Korea Cooperation Fund, were also part of the discussions. The Korean Ministry of Environment has a history of supporting Cambodian hydrology training programmes, emphasizing the ongoing collaboration between the two nations.
Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to continued technical assistance and policy alignment to address water challenges and to enhance climate resilience in Cambodia.
