Phnom Penh: Agriculture Ministers of Cambodia and Ireland have exchanged views on accelerating modern farming and enhancing technical capacity development. Cambodia’s Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, H.E. Dith Tina, met with H.E. Noel Grealish, Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food, and the Marine of the Republic of Ireland, to discuss potential cooperation strategies on March 17 in Phnom Penh.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Dith Tina proposed that Ireland increase its Official Development Assistance, which could provide Cambodia with low-interest loans for farmers looking to adopt modern farming techniques. These advancements in farming are intended to help Cambodian farmers lower production costs, adapt to climate change, enhance the value of their agricultural products, and boost exports.
The discussion also highlighted the importance of technical agriculture human resource development. H.E. Dith Tina advocated for the provision of scholarships to Cambodian
students, emphasizing the establishment of community-based agriculture focal points. Furthermore, he encouraged student exchanges between Cambodia and Ireland to foster a deeper understanding and collaboration in agricultural education and practices.
