Cambodia and Iran Engage in Water Resources Cooperation Talks


Phnom Penh: The minister of water resources and meteorology has received the ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Cambodia to discuss water resources cooperation. H.E. Thor Chetha met with the Iranian ambassador, H.E. Ali Akbar Nazari, and his senior delegation on Jan. 15 at the ministry.



According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the minister informed the Iranian ambassador about the priority work as well as the vision of the ministry to expand water resources accessibility in Cambodia. The priorities include rehabilitating and modernising irrigation systems to ensure sustainable water resource management and strengthening the hydrological and meteorological service provision and forecasting system.



H.E. Thor Chetha also highlighted the ministry’s efforts in institutional capacity development, innovations, and awareness building among stakeholders about the use and management of water resources. H.E. Ali Akbar Nazari appreciated Cambodia’s progress in water resources management and reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to look into possibilities to support further development of the sector.
