Phnom Penh: Cambodia and India have pledged to foster their bilateral cooperation in women’s economic empowerment. The joint commitment was highlighted in a meeting between H.E. Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi, Cambodian Minister of Women’s Affairs, and H.E. Vanlalvawna Bawitlung, Indian Ambassador to Cambodia, at the ministry on Monday.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi warmly welcomed and highlighted the good cooperation between the Ministry of Women’s Affairs and the Government of India through the Embassy of the Republic of India in Cambodia on several projects. These include the capacity development program for civil servants of the Ministry in various skills and the implementation of a Quick Impact Project, which aims to build school buildings for children at the primary school level.
H.E. Minister shared that the ministry has recently received support from the Government of India in implementing a project on Khmer women pattern setter (chorabab). This project aims to develop skills in the production and design of silk products, find markets, and preserve Khmer traditional heritage for future generations.
H.E. Ambassador Vanlalvawna Bawitlung expressed interest in expanding cooperation on strengthening the capacity of women leaders in various fields, including entrepreneurship, governance, and digital skills. He also explored the possibilities of networking for women entrepreneurs to seek collaboration opportunities and expand the business market of women entrepreneurs from both countries.
H.E. Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi further emphasized the importance of people-to-people connectivity. She stated that promoting women’s economic empowerment through entrepreneurship, investment, and business is essential to contribute to development in all sectors.
In her closing remarks, H.E. Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi expressed sincere thanks to the Government of India and the Embassy of the Republic of India in Cambodia for their continued support of Cambodia and the Ministry of Women’s Affairs. Their efforts significantly contribute to promoting gender equality and empowering women and girls.
