Cambodia and India Explore Opportunities for Cashew Nut Export

Dubai: H.E Samheng Bora, Secretary of State, Ministry of Commerce and Chairman of the Export Promotion Task Force, has engaged in strategic discussions with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, and five major Indian cashew buyers to explore opportunities for exporting Cambodian cashew nuts to the Indian market and the world.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the meeting, held on Feb. 23 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, focused on Cambodia’s cashew production capacity, quality standards, and export potential. During the discussions, Indian buyers expressed strong interest in both raw cashew nuts and processed kernels, recognizing the potential for direct trade partnerships.

They acknowledged that the Cambodian cashew nuts are renowned for their large size kernels and unique flavor profile, making them particularly appealing to consumers. The discussion also served as a platform to explore broader opportunities to enhance Cambodia’s cashew exports and increase value added within the sector.

Cambodia produced 850,000 tonnes of cashew nuts last year, a year-on-year increase of 26.8 percent, and exported 815,000 tonnes of cashew nuts, up 31 percent, according to a report from the Cashew Nut Association of Cambodia.
