Cambodia and Australia Commit to Strengthening Trade and Investment Ties


Sydney: Cambodia and Australia have pledged to foster bilateral cooperation in various fields, particularly trade and investment. The commitment was made during a meeting between H.E. Mrs. Cham Nimul, Minister of Commerce, and H.E. Tim Ayres, Assistant Minister for Trade of Australia, in Sydney on February 17.



According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, both sides discussed the current state of bilateral trade relations and identified opportunities for enhancing cooperation. They emphasized the significance of their trade ties and expressed a mutual commitment to expanding bilateral trade, aiming to further strengthen the relationship between the two nations.



During the discussions, the two parties highlighted the quality and potential of Cambodian rice and explored the possibility of increased Australian investment in Cambodia. They identified key areas such as human resource development, education and skills training, and healthcare as potential fields for investment.



Bilateral trade between Cambodia and Australia was valued at nearly US$598 million in 2024, marking a 19.2 percent increase compared to the previous year, as reported by the Ministry of Commerce. Cambodian exports to Australia reached US$487 million, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 31 percent.
