A senior police officer with the rank of ASP and six police officers, including a woman, were arrested yesterday to assist investigations into an alleged molest and extortion case involving a woman at a condominium unit in Cheras on Oct 1.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the arrest of all of the police officers was made following a police report which the victim had lodged on Monday.

‘On Monday, the victim, a 22-year-old local woman, lodged a police report and on the same day police arrested three local men aged between 30 and 50 in connection with the incident, but they were released on police bail,’ he said after a run held in conjunction with the 2024 National Sports Day at the Kuala Lumpur contingent police headquarters (IPK) on Saturday.

Rusdi said the officer and policemen aged 30 to 50 were remanded for three days from today until Monday while the case is being investigated under Section 354 (outrage of modesty) and Section 384 (extortion) of the Penal Code.

Earlier, a message
on Telegram had gone viral claiming a woman had become a victim of extortion and molest by a group at a condominium unit in Cheras.

In the message, the woman alleged she was threatened by a group of police officers who raided (her apartment) and extorted her for RM150,000 before it was reduced to RM90,000, after drugs were found in her possession.

The woman, however, claimed to have been released after a local man helped her with a payment of RM10,000 which she will pay back in periodic repayments with interest.
