Angkor Siem Reap International Airport Marks One-Year Anniversary with Remarkable Number of Passengers

Chinese-invested Siem Reap Angkor International Airport (SAI) on Wednesday marked its one-year anniversary (Oct. 16, 2023 – Oct. 16, 2024), with a significant milestone of over 1.3 million passengers passing through its gates.

The First Anniversary Celebration was held at the airport under the presidency of H.E. Mao Havannall, Minister in Charge of the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation; H.E. Wang Wenbin, Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia; and Mr. Liu Mingling, Director General and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Yunnan Investment Group Co., Ltd., the developer of Siem Reap Angkor International Airport, with the participation of government officials, airport management, and industry representatives.

The event highlighted the airport’s achievements and its potential to further contribute to Cambodia’s economic development.

Between October 2023 and October 2024, SAI handled a combined number of 1.3 million passengers, according to a report from the Angkor International Airport Investment (Cambodia).

H.E. Mao Havannall praised the airport’s contribution to both the aviation sector and the tourism industry in Siem Reap province.

‘The airport’s modern facilities and efficient operations have played a vital role in facilitating more visitors to the province, boosting the local economy and enhancing the aviation and investment sectors,’ H.E. Mao Havannall said.

The company managing the airport expressed optimism about future growth and announced its target of reaching 1.5 million air passengers by the end of 2024.

Located in Tayek commune in Sotr Nikum district, about 50 kilometres from Siem Reap provincial city, the US$1,100 million-worth SAI can accommodate long-haul flights from across the globe with a 3,600-metre runway and 38 berths.
