Siem Reap: The APSARA National Authority (ANA) held a significant workshop titled “Strengthening the Capacity and Roles of Site Managers” in Siem Reap province on Nov. 18 to strengthen the conservation efforts. The workshop was chaired by H.E. Long Kosal, Deputy Director General of ANA and attended by 80 participants from various ANA’s departments, including the Department of Public Order, the Department of Tourism Development and Culture, the Department of Conservation of Monuments and Preventive Archaeology, and the Department of Water, Forestry and Infrastructure Management.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the primary objective of the workshop was to enhance knowledge and skills among participants to improve their daily management practices. The focus was on ensuring the conservation efforts, elevating the value of natural and cultural assets, and fostering inter-departmental cooperation through the development of a joint management plan for each temple within the Angkor site.
During his opening re
marks, H.E. Long Kosal emphasised the importance of the workshop in refining participants’ knowledge and increasing their capacity. He noted that speakers from various departments, all with extensive experience in their respective fields, would share valuable insights. Furthermore, he advocated for the creation of a joint management plan informed by a common risk map to proactively address potential challenges.
The ANA deputy director general hoped that participants would acquire new knowledge that could be effectively applied in their daily work by the conclusion of the workshop.
