An Orchid Hybrid in Singapore Named after Cambodian PM

An orchid hybrid in Singapore has been named ‘Vanchoanthe Hun Manet’ after Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

The Orchid Naming Ceremony took place at the National Orchid Garden on June 18, during Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet’s two-day official visit to Singapore.

‘The naming of orchid after Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Prime Minister is a warm welcome and a confirmation of the deep and lasting friendship between the two countries during the Prime Minister’s official visit to Singapore,’ said H.E. Kung Phoak, Secretary of State and Spokesperson of the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on his social media networks this morning.

This is an eye-catching and free-flowering orchid hybrid. It produces strong and upright inflorescences that are 25-35 centimetres in length and bear 12 to 20 distinct flowers. Each flower measures approximately 6 centimetres in width and emits a faint jasmine fragrance.

The petals and sepals have a mauv
e background adorned with lavender tessellations. The flowers are complemented by a showy violet lip with white ridges.
