AirAsia Cambodia is set to spread its wings by adding a new route from Siem Reap to Singapore commencing from Nov. 9, 2024, the airline said in a press release.
As one of the world’s leading low-cost airlines and with a network of over 130 destinations, AirAsia offers an unparalleled global platform to enable access to everyone’s favourite destinations as well as a plethora of new hidden gems, with Cambodia being one of the airline Group’s core underserved markets.
Bo Lingam, CEO of AirAsia Aviation Group, said that elevating travel connectivity within the ASEAN region has been the lynch pin of AirAsia’s model since it started operations with just two planes over 22 years ago. This new route direct to Singapore signifies the start of a broader Group strategy supporting the revival of the tourism industry and a new era for international services to and from Cambodia.
‘While we expect our direct services to Kuala Lumpur and now also to Singapore will continue to prove very popular, we are also very excited
about the world of opportunities via our vast network. Our popular seamless Fly Thru services especially to China, Japan, Australia, India and beyond enable more people to fly to/from Cambodia at the very best value prices,’ Bo Lingam said.
Vissoth Nam, CEO of AirAsia Cambodia said the airline has strong expansion plans to fly further to and from our great Kingdom in the future, providing guests with even more value and choice.
‘Since we launched services in early May 2024, we are witnessing strong demand and significant opportunities for growth in a number of key international markets. Singapore is the start of a number of new destinations we are keen to launch soon including the potential of a direct route linking Phnom Penh to Singapore,’ he said.
‘We are dedicated to supporting Cambodia’s tourism and economic development goals, in line with Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia’s vision of establishing more direct flights from major global tourist destinations to Cambodi
a. As a result, these new services will provide a welcome boost to our local economy and tourism sectors, including job creation in the all-important hospitality sectors,’ he said.
H.E. Prak Sophoan, Governor of Siem Reap province, said this is a significant announcement by AirAsia Cambodia as Cambodia work hard to revive her foreign tourism numbers since the pandemic.
‘Cambodia offers a wealth of opportunities from cultural, historical and natural experiences and we look forward to working with AirAsia to connect more travellers from all over the world to our remarkable country, thanks to the vast AirAsia Group network,’ he said.
In the first eight months of 2024, Siem Reap received a total of more than 650,000 international tourists, an increase of 31 percent compared to the same period in 2023, the official report showed.
