AKP Phnom Penh, September 10, 2023 — The Cambodian U23 national team jumped to second place in Group J after defeating their Mongolian counterpart 2-1 in a match of the AFC U23 Asian Cup Qatar 2024 qualifiers, held in Saudi Arabia on Sept. 9.
Led by Japanese coach, Mr. Gyotoku Koji, the Cambodian team took the lead in the first half with two goals by Sar Ratana in the 30th and 45 minutes, while in the second half, the Mongolian team scored one goal.
Last night, on his social media networks, Cambodian Prime Minister, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet extended his congratulations to the Cambodian U23 national football team on the victory.
The Cambodian U23 team has so far gone through 2 matches – 1 draw with Lebanon (2-2) and 1 win with Mongolia, temporary standing second in Group J.
Cambodia will meet Saudi Arabia, the champion of AFC U23 Asian Cup 2022, in the last match of Group J on Sept. 12, 2023.
A total of 43 countries are participating in the regional football competition and are divided in 11 groups. Only 16 will be qualified for the AFC U23 Asian Cup Qatar 2024 finals to be held from April 15 to May 3, 2024 in Qatar.
