Phnom Penh: A group of 74 distinguished delegates from the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace (IPTP) this afternoon visited the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) Resource Centre. This visit was part of the agenda for the 11th Plenary Session of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace (IPTP 11), held in Phnom Penh from Nov. 23 to 26, 2024.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Kranh Tony, Acting Director of the Office of Administration of the ECCC Resource Centre, delivered a presentation on the Centre’s role in supporting legal professionals, students, researchers, and the public in understanding the tribunal’s legal and historical significance. Delegates were particularly interested in the ECCC’s role in documenting the atrocities of the Khmer Rouge regime and its contribution to the broader global fight against impunity.

The delegation toured different sections of the Resource Centre, which serves as a key hub for preserving the trial’s archives, providing public information, and supporting research on ECCC documents, said an ECCC’s press release issued this evening. Delegates learned about the access to over 2.4 million pages of digital documents in the ECCC Digital Archive, said the source, adding that they also explored the ECCC mobile bus, which is a powerful means to disseminate information to the younger generation acr
oss the country.
In addition, the press release pointed out, the IPTP delegates expressed their support for the ECCC’s efforts to ensure accountability for the crimes committed during the Khmer Rouge regime and pledged to continue working with the international community to prevent such atrocities from occurring again.
