2nd Cambodia-U.S. Public-Private Sector Dialogue Held in Phnom Penh

Phnom Penh: The second Cambodia-U.S. Public-Private Sector Dialogue took place here on Mar. 26, reaffirming the Royal Government of Cambodia’s (RGC) commitment to enhancing the investment climate and attracting more U.S. investors.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), co-chaired the dialogue alongside Ms. Bridgette L. Walker, Charg© d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Cambodia. The event brought together representatives from relevant ministries, institutions, the American Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia, the U.S.-ASEAN Business Council, and the private sector.

The dialogue served as a platform for addressing concerns raised by American investors, fostering open discussions, and seeking solutions in a spirit of cooperation. It underscored the RGC’s commitment to strengthening investors’ confidence by enhancing the effectiveness of public-private dialogue mechanisms at both policy and technical levels.

U.S. investor representatives welcomed the RGC’s engagement, expressing optimism about the opportunity to voice challenges and exchange ideas. They anticipated that the discussions would lead to clearer updates on relevant procedures and legal standards.

During the event, H.E. Sun Chanthol highlighted Cambodia’s strong investment growth, noting the record-breaking approval of 414 investment projects by the CDC in 2024. ‘This achievement is a testament to the effectiveness of Cambodia’s Investment Law and the government’s policies in supporting private sector investment, recognising it as a key driver of national economic growth,’ he stated.

The DPM also emphasised the government’s push for digitalisation at the Council for the Development of Cambodia through the Investment Project Management System (cdcIPM), which enhances efficiency and flexibility in approving qualified investment projects.
