PM Advises Authorities to Keep High Vigilance of Possible Flooding and Be Ready for Timely Interventions

Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has advised relevant ministries and institutions to pay high attention and be ready for timely interventions for flood control and its impact.

According to his voice message shared this morning, neighbouring countries of Cambodia have been facing severe floods due to successive rain caused by typhoons. Therefore, he instructed relevant ministries and institutions, the provincial and municipal administrations, and the armed forces to increase their attention, keep high vigilance, and follow closely the situation in order to timely respond to possible flooding, especially to save the affected people’s lives and their properties.

The Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) and the National Police are recommended to be ready for rescue interventions when needed, while the National Committee for Disaster Management must work with the municipal and provincial governors to identify safe grounds for the flood victims, and take coordinating measures and reserve forc
es and materials for additional rescue.

Moreover, the Premier advised the Ministry of Economy and Finance and relevant institutions to set aside foods and necessary materials and equipment for flood victims in case there is request from the provincial and municipal administrations.

For their part, the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology (MOWRAM) must monitor closely the evolution of water level and cooperate with relevant institutions and provincial and municipal administrations for timely interventions, whereas the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and relevant institutions must reserve seeds and necessary materials in case of severe impact on crops, which needs to be restored.

New weather forecast issued this morning by MOWRAM shows that due to the impact of tropical storm Pulasan, Cambodia would experience rain along with thunder, lightning and gusts almost across the country between Sept. 18 to 20.

During this period, the temperature in the Kingdom would range between 23 and 34
degree Celsius, added MOWRAM.
