Industry Minister Encourages SSEAYP Delegates to Embody Humility and Hospitality as Cambodian Goodwill Ambassadors

H.E. Hem Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, has encouraged the Cambodian youth delegation for the 48th Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Programme (SSEAYP) to embody humility, demonstrate mutual respect, and let their actions reflect Cambodia’s commitment to hospitality and cultural pride.

‘Engage openly, learn from others, and love our nation,’ H.E. Minister advised the Cambodian SSEAYP delegates when he received them here at the ministry on Sept. 16.

H.E. Hem Vanndy congratulated the 15 youth delegates on their selection from a competitive pool of over 500 applicants, stressing the importance of representing Cambodia with humility and hospitality. ‘This journey is not a leisure cruise; it is a mission to showcase our nation’s values,’ he said.

The minister also laid stress on the key mandates of the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation (MISTI), including its crucial role in preparing for Cambodia’s upcoming graduation from Least Developed
Country (LDC) status in 2029.

According to MISTI, SSEAYP, an annual cultural and educational exchange program established in 1974, will see the delegates this year embark on a 38-day journey starting Nov. 4, 2024, with visits to Japan, Indonesia, and Vietnam.

The programme aims to promote regional cooperation, facilitate cultural exchange, and enhance mutual understanding among youth from Southeast Asia and Japan.

The SSEAYP 2024 will see 23 youth delegates from Japan and 16 from each of the 10 ASEAN countries, while Timor-Leste will also join as an observer for the first time this year.
