Former UN Secretary General Speaks Highly of Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s Leadership


Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of Cambodia, on Sept. 11 received H.E. Ban Ki-moon, former Secretary-General of the United Nations, during his stay in ROK for the 25th World Knowledge Forum (WKF) 2024.

On the occasion, H.E. Ban Ki-moon extended warm welcome to the visit of Samdech Techo Hun Sen in ROK to attend the 25th WKF 2024, and congratulated him on becoming the President of Cambodia’s Senate.

The former UN secretary-general also highly valued Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s leadership in bringing about peace to Cambodia, fostering the bilateral relations and cooperation between Cambodia and ROK, calling him an ASEAN leader who has long-term vision and has helped address issues in the ASEAN region.

From his side, Samdech Techo Hun Sen appreciated H.E. Ban Ki-moon’s contribution to maintaining peace in Cambodia and to establishing the Extraordinary Chambers of the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC), rendering justice for the victims of the Khmer Rouge genocidal regime.

The senate p
resident thanked the ROK and H.E. Ban Ki-moon for their contributions to the development of Cambodia’s key sectors, and hoped that the Cambodia-ROK Friendship Bridge crossing two rivers will appear in the near future.

He also lauded the Cambodia-ROK Free Trade Agreement which has expanded the two countries’ potential in the areas of economy and trade.
