ADB Reaffirms Strong Partnership with Cambodia

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has reaffirmed its commitment for a strong partnership with Cambodia to improve the Cambodians’ living standard.

During their courtesy meeting here at the Peace Palace this afternoon, ADB President Mr. Masatsugu Asakawa informed Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet of the inauguration of ADB’s new office in Cambodia, stressing that it demonstrates stronger commitment to a solid partnership between ADB and the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) to enhance the livelihoods of Cambodian people.

Mr. Masatsugu Asakawa also highlighted the ADB’s commitment to continue supporting the RGC through the Country Partnership Strategy (CPS), focusing on three key areas: Prosperity through economic diversification; Investing in people with a focus on education and vocational training; and Supporting the planet with a focus on the environment and climate.

For his part, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet extended his congratulations to the official inauguration of the ADB
‘s new office in Cambodia. He also thanked the ADB for its commitment to continue to support the RGC which has launched new initiatives and reform programmes to ensure sustainable and resilient economic growth in order to improve the people’s living standards and achieve the vision of Cambodia to become a high-income economy by 2050.

The Premier also highlighted the promotion of private sector, an important partner of the RGC, as well as the launch of human capital development programmes to build a quality and capable workforce through training and modern technology.

Besides, Samdech Thipadei laid stress on the RGC’s contribution in responding to climate change, emphasising the introduction of clean energy development policies.

Currently, he pointed out, 62 percent of the total energy consumption in Cambodia is clean energy. The Kingdom has set a goal to boost clean energy consumption to 70 percent by 2030, and completely stopped the construction of coal-fired power plants, but adopted renewable energy dev
elopment projects.
